365:2011 – complete!
I’m a bit late in posting this update, I know, but it’s been a busy few months. Mr CG and I are not only very close to becoming parents, but we also made a pretty big move from our rented flat in west London to our first owned home in the West Midlands – a move we were sad to make because we love London so much and have left behind a lot of friends, but we’re also excited to be in our new home, closer to family and in a more Chimp-friendly place for when baby arrives. So things have been a bit full-on. But, amidst all of that, I still managed to keep up my 365 project – and, boy, was I glad when it was over?! To celebrate the end of an exhausting but ultimately fulfilling challenge, here’s a quick whizz-through of my favourite shots from the project…
- We bought a new car, and I love it!
- A sports-themed road trip – snooker at The Crucible in Sheffield, followed by darts in Liverpool, then football in Birmingham. Great fun!
- Royal wedding day – I’m not a fan of the royals at all, but we were on a road trip with friends who wanted to watch the wedding, so it was a good opportunity for a shot
- On my way back from a run in the park, I spotted a malfunctioning parking ticket machine – it had spewed out its contents all over the street…
- My sister bought me this voodoo monkey a few years ago and I love it, he’s so cute!
- Liqourice all-sorts… I don’t really like them eats-wise, but they’re very pretty!
- It’s just a pepper, but I love the shot
- Today was the day we found out that we’re expecting our first baby! I couldn’t shoot anything pregnancy-related as we wanted to keep it quiet for a while, so I commemorated the date instead…
- We had a long weekend in Cornwall with my family to celebrate my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary.
- Heading off for a long weekend in Germany to see Take That, and therefore fulfilling a childhood dream of mine!
- Monkey!
- Our second wedding anniversary :)
- Our friends’ wedding, a beautiful dual-faith ceremony.
- I spotted this dewy feather in my parents’ garden and couldn’t resist the shot.
- We went on a 30th birthday pub crawl with a friend, and the Mr and I bought her a Lego game called Shave The Sheep – we played it in the beer garden and it was a lot of fun!
- A rainy trip home from a late shift at work
- We saw our friends’ band, Jonny Cola & The A Grades, in Birmingham – great gig, as usual
- The Berlin wall – hubby and I went for a weekend to celebrate his 30th and our belated 10-yr anniversary
- Hubby playing the guitar
- Since we were going to be leaving our lovely flat after nearly 5 years, I decided to chronicle as much of it as I could…
- Our local tube station in west London. We loved where we lived so wanted to chronicle it before we left.
- The start of Movember – I know it’s for men, but I decided to join in briefly..
- Bunting I made for Chimp’s jungle animal-themed nursery
- Autumn leaves outside work
- Christmas lights outside Westfield shopping centre
- Pretty tulips and their equally pretty reflections
- Chimp’s playmat – we saw this months before we bought it and decided we HAD to have it…
- I made cookies for the people at work as a little goodbye before we left to work from home :(
- Sunrise over our new garden, the day after we moved into our new house.
- The view from our bedroom window in our new house, days after moving in.
- The last day! New year’s eve, hubby & I celebrating the end of the year, the start of what will be an amazing year, and the end of my 365 project :)
So, they were some of my favourite shots of 2011. The full 365 project has been uploaded onto my Flickr site and Facebook page, so if you want to see the rest then those are the places to head. I won’t pretend it wasn’t a really exhausting and time-consuming project, and there were many, many days when I wished I hadn’t taken it on, but I was determined to see it through, and I’m glad I did. I missed two shots in all, both of which I’m convinced I took but must have accidentally deleted. It’s a bit annoying, but I still think it’s a pretty good success rate! I’ve now had the entire project printed as a photo-book so that I can look back on the year - a pretty momentous year for me, as it turned out – whenever I want to, and that alone is worth the stress that the project caused at times. I won’t be doing another one again in a hurry – it’s been nice to not have to take photos, but to just get my camera out when I actually want to – but I’m so, so proud of myself for doing it, and if anyone out there is planning on doing the same, I’d say that it’s a lot of hard work, and it’s much more stressful than taking photos should be, and you’ll doubtless have days when you regret taking on such a mammoth project – but see it through and you’ll be immensely proud of your achievement
